One of the most fun techniques for catching fish has to be vertical jigging.
You’re not required to cast with any kind of precision. You don’t need to be an expert in manipulating the action on the lure.
All you do is drop your bait over the side of the boat and let it sink to the bottom. Once there, you raise up the lure by lifting your fishing pole. Working various lifts and at different intervals will coax a fish to strike.
Coupled with a good fish finder anglers describe vertical jigging like a video game.
With the fun you can have jigging, here are some jigs for lake trout you must have in your tackle box!
Lake Trout Jig Reviews
The Marabou Jig is a must. Extremely popular, and even capable of catching world records!
In 1992 Howard “Rip” Collins used a 1/32 ounce olive Marabou Jig to land a 40 pound, 4 ounce Brown Trout out of the Little Red River.
If that’s not enough reason to have at least one in the box, I don’t know what else is.
Depending on how deep you want to fish, there are several weights you can choose from with the Marabou Jig. Easily a must have.
Marabou Jigs come in a wide variety of colors, so pick some you know that work in your area and experiment with a few that you don’t know about- you never know what will work!

The Trout Magnet, at first glance, looks like some sort of as seen on TV phony lure. But these lures do really work.
And this kit is fantastic as it gives you a multitude of options to use so you can quickly change to a new color if one doesn’t appear to work that day.
You should always have this kit on you if you plan on jigging anywhere for trout.
This is a nice small package that you can easily carry with you if you’re kayaking in a remote lake or traveling to a remote area and need to pack lightly.

A good ice fishing jig that works in the summer months has to be the Rapala Jigging Rap.
Offered in a few different color patterns, the Rapala Jigging Rap is unique in that it’s action is directly related to how it’s tied to your line.
The line loop is position near the middle of the lure, giving it a horizontal appearance in the water.
With a clear tail fin positioned resting over the tail hook, the Jigging Rap offers a fanning, lifelike action as you pull up on the rod.
More hooks offer more hookup opportunities, which makes this a good lure to hang on to.

I like the Swedish Pimple Jig line a lot.
They’re a classic design that seems to have been around forever and they just work. The obvious colors are gold and silver but you can get these jigs in many other varieties of patterns and colors, so don’t be afraid to try something different.
Lake Trout can be very finicky and presentation is vitally important.
The unique design on the spoon is what reflects the light a certain way that drives Lake Trout nuts.
Yes this lure is made for ice fishing, but you can absolutely use this in the summer months. It’s not that you can use it- you should.

These Forage Minnows happen to be my favorite jig. I like the shape, the patterns and they’re heavy enough to get right down to the bottom quickly.
Many colors to choose from, the Forage Minnow is deadly for Lake Trout that are staying cool in a deep hole in the summer months.
Quick, erratic twitches seem to do the trick for me. Feel confident you can set the hook with a sturdy treble attached to the end of these great jigs.
Wrapping It All Up
Don’t sleep on jigging for Lake Trout in the hot summer months.
While most anglers cover more water trolling you can save time and gas if you sit yourself on top of a nice hole in the lake.
Work the jigs like you would in the winter and enjoy the fight that comes with it.
